How to Grow – Part 3

How to Encourage People to Return

After acting on the information contained in parts 1 and 2 of this guide, you now have more new viewers appearing in your channel. Your final task is to convince any new arrivals that they should return next time you’re Live. How?

Your Streaming Schedule

Set up a streaming schedule for your channel, then stick to it. This is critical to growth. If you cannot commit to a schedule, you will grow much more slowly.

Post your schedule in the panels on your channel. End every stream by telling your viewers when your next stream is, then raid one of your streaming friends. If you’re serious about growing, you should stream at least 3 days per week. The more days per week you stream, the faster you will grow.schedule

If you can’t make one of your scheduled days for whatever reason, let your community know on your social networks. But do not make a habit of missing days. Every day that you do not stream as scheduled, more people will think that your schedule isn’t real, and then they won’t show up either! You severely hurt your channel’s growth by not keeping your schedule consistent.

Special Events

Have special events on your channel once in awhile to mix things up. Make announcements ahead of time on your social networks and on your casts. Some ideas for events include giveaways, 24 hour streams, charity streams, birthday streams, guests on the stream, celebrations for hitting milestones, and so on.

When you do special streams announced ahead of time, people will show up that you haven’t seen in a long time. Ask them how they’ve been. Try to reconnect. It is your opportunity to remind them why they followed you in the first place.

Don’t do events too often or they won’t feel special anymore to you or to your viewers.

Look in the Mirror

If you’ve been streaming awhile (6+ months) and you haven’t seen much growth, it’s time to do some self-reflection. Armed with the knowledge in this guide, it’s time to dig deep and ask yourself: Why aren’t people coming back?

  • Do I enjoy streaming?
  • Am I growing a community and not just in it for myself? Do I support my fellow streamers?introspection2
  • Do I stick to my streaming schedule?
  • Do I experience a lot of technical problems?
  • Do I always interact with my viewers?
  • Does my attitude scare people away?
  • If I watch my own recordings, do I find them interesting or entertaining? If not, how can I change that?

Include your community! Ask your regulars if they have suggestions too.
